Gar Woods has anchored Carnelian Bay since 1988, a lakefront grill named for the great wooden-boat builder and steeped in that era's varnish-and-chrome romance. For weddings it plays the restaurant-venue card better than anywhere on the north shore: two upstairs private dining rooms take groups of up to 150, a lake-view balcony runs the length of both for cocktail hour, and buying out the deck and dining room opens the whole waterfront to bigger parties.
The house's long pier is the signature move — couples and wedding parties arrive or exit by boat, with the Sierra behind them and the restaurant's windows full of guests. Menus come from the restaurant's own chef, service comes with a dedicated banquet professional, and the bar pours the Wet Woody, the drink that made the deck famous.
